Finding Neverland is a fabulous film inspired by the life of JM Barrie, the real life creator and author of Peter Pan. Johnny Depp plays Mr. Barrie and it is arguably one of his greatest performances, second to his role as Captain Jack Sparrow in the original Pirates of the Caribbean. The film is set in London in 1904. JM Barrie is a well-known playwright who is bored with the same old themes that seem to be prevalent in his and other's plays. One day while strolling through the park looking for inspiration for his next play, he meets and befriends four fatherless boys. One boy in particular, Peter, shares the same creative mind that he does. Peter becomes dear to Barrie as he has no children of his own.
Barrie engages the boys in games of mischief, tricks and fantasies about being attacked by pirates and being castaways etc. He creates a magical imaginary world called Neverland and transforms the boys into the "Lost Boys." The unbridled excitement and adventure that engulfs Barrie and the boys helps inspire his greatest masterpiece.
As Barrie begins production of his play his peers and critics think he has lost his mind as he requests that his cast be able to fly about the stage, talk to fairies and wear a crocodile and dog costume. As Barrie is ready to show the play there is a twist in the story that makes him and the boys understand why it is so important to love and to believe.
Finding Neverland is available in all major DVD outlets.
