Field of Dreams (1989) PG

Synopsis:

Kevin Costner plays a former Sixties idealist who runs a farm in Iowa with his wife and young daughter. After hearing a mysterious, heavenly voice one day, Costner turns one of his cornfields into a baseball diamond. Of course, everyone thinks he's crazy, but in time "Shoeless" Joe Jackson and other ghostly outcasts, who had previously languished in a sort of baseball purgatory, show up to play the game they still love. Soon men from all over the country join them at this baseball shrine, some just to play with the greats, others to mend the broken relationships they had with their fathers - But all are trying to get back in touch with simpler times through the purity of America's grandest game.

Virtue and Values

This film is as inspiring and uplifting as they come. Throughout the film Ray follows his impossible dream even after the discouragement of some of his closest friends and family. This teaches a valuable lesson about striving for goals and trying to achieve one's greatest hopes. Despite what his family and others think of him Ray perseveres, overcoming the negativity of others in effort to follow his beliefs. His family eventually supports his crazy idea to plow their cornfield and build a baseball field in its place; regardless of their trying economic circumstance. As Ray's dreams are fulfilled and baseball players from history magically appear to play in his "Field of Dreams" family ties are strengthened and Ray joys in this priceless reward.
