"This movie
tells the story of an old man who makes a long journey on a lawn
mower to mend his relationship with an ill brother. During his
journey from Iowa to Wisconsin he meets kind and real-life people.
Based on a true story.
I saw this movie on television some time ago, and was pleasantly surprised by its relaxed atmosphere and engaging characters. The main character, Alvin Straight, speaks softly and from the heart, sharing his experiences in life with those he meets on the way. This movie is so different from the action-packed, glitter filled, visual effects movies that they show in the cinema these days (and don't get me wrong, I can enjoy those too), that it just made me stop and think. The fiddle score frames the simple beauty of the rolling midland fields well.
Some may find the movie a little slow, but the journey will leave you with a warm feeling inside and an appreciation for the good people around us."

Those seeking to watch the The Straight Story should
be prepared for two things. First, it's "G" rated. Second, it's being distributed by Walt Disney Pictures. One thing should be stated up front: a "G" rating
does not necessarily equate to a children's film. The Straight Story is designed with adults in mind - all but the most precocious kids will be bored out of their minds. This is cinematic food for mature individuals that is devoid of sex, violence, cursing, or nudity.
It holds a strong focus on forgiveness, humility, kindness and the importance of family.
